- It's a good idea to speak with an advisor before you register for a course. An advisor at your program's university or at a University College center can help you choose the right course and guide you through the process of becoming a student.
Are online courses transferable? Expand Answer ↓
- The University of Maine System and the Board of Trustees are committed to helping students realize their educational goals by facilitating the transfer of courses from one institution to another. Please visit the Transfer Services web site for more information and a link to the Transfer Credit Guide.
If you are a degree student outside of the University of Maine System, you should consult with your college regarding transfer of credits.

- If you want to earn a degree at a distance, apply to the University of Maine System campus granting the degree.

Does financial aid cover the cost of online and blended courses? Expand Answer ↓
- In-state students: Yes. However, you must be enrolled in a degree program within the University of Maine System and the course must transfer into your degree.
If you are taking a course that is not originating from your home campus, you must contact your financial aid office to fill out any paperwork that may be required to transfer financial aid.
If you are enrolled in a degree program from an institution outside of the University of Maine System, you should talk with your financial aid office about the possibilities of your financial aid covering these courses.
Is there a charge for online courses and if so how much? Expand Answer ↓
- Yes. You are charged the tuition rate of the campus from which the course originates. Various fees also apply, as well as cost of textbooks and/or study guides. Please check the tuition and fees for the university offering your course.

What is a placement exam? Why do I need one? Expand Answer ↓
- A placement exam is an un-timed exam which estimates, through a sample of questions, your preparedness for college level work in reading, writing, and math. The exams determine the level at which you should start in each of these areas.
What does it mean for a program to be blended? Expand Answer ↓
- A blended program requires attendance on campus for 20%-50% of the program requirements. The rest of the program requirements can be met by accessing the material online or through other distance delivery methods.
